This sprawling site on a hilltop overlooking the town of Silverdale, WA housed the community’s iconic historic high school, a 1950’s era middle school, and the district’s bus barn. The new site design allows for vehicular and bus circulation to all parts of the sloping site, two synthetic track/field facilities, a baseball field, softball field, and 8 tennis courts.  A crushed rock pathway circumnavigates the site, inviting the community to explore the forested hillsides, stormwater wetlands, fields, and views of Mount Rainier that make this new hilltop campus a true community destination.  Plazas and other pedestrian spaces on site allow for a smooth transition between the building and its surroundings.

Sited to maximize the natural character of a steeply sloping site with views of the surrounding area, the facility creates a distinct identity for each school through thoughtful site circulation, wayfinding signage, and scale. In concert with the GCCM, Integrus and the project review committee, we navigated complex site issues to take advantage of available buildable areas and to allow for full access and operations of the existing facilities during all phases of construction.
